Bangsbo Botanical Garden
Let yourself be seduced by the many plants and flowers
When you step into the abundance of scents and colours at Bangsbo Botanical Garden, it's not hard to dream back to Bangsbo's heyday, when the gardeners performed their work dressed in suits and top hats.
Here you can experience the old English-inspired park with many benches, large lawns, old trees and a summerhouse. There is also a beautiful rose garden, medicinal and herb garden, sensory garden, introductory historical fruit and berry garden, and a fine collection of bonsai trees.
If you go a little way above the old park, you'll come to the actual botanical gardens, which consist of lakes and canals, the world's largest scree bed with alpine plants, a tufa bed, also with alpine plants, woodland floor beds, a rock face of Norwegian granite, and various plant collections such as the hosta collection, the geranium collection, the primula collection, and beds with a beautiful collection of peonies.
The Danish Wild Plant Garden is one of the newest areas in the Botanical Garden. Continuous work is being done here to create a garden that follows the park's other high standards.
Bangsbo Flower Festival
Every year, Frederikshavn welcomes summer with a large flower festival in beautiful surroundings in the old park at Bangsbo Botanical Garden.
The flower festival is always held on the first full weekend in June.
Across more than 100 pavilions, horticultural societies, amateur gardeners, nurseries, organisations and associations invite visitors to the flower festival to explore creative displays of garden art and accessories, as well as purchase all kinds of plants, such as alpine plants, rhododendrons, clematis, succulents, primulas, pelargoniums, lilies and perennials.
There's ample opportunity to have a good chat about gardens or plants with knowledgeable gardeners, and when hunger and thirst strike, you can also buy some tasty treats for your stomach and palate.
Look forward to a cosy experience!
