The Bangsbo area in the southern part of Frederikshavn is a favorite excursion destination with many opportunities. Here you can enjoy the fantastic nature on a walk along the path with the royally sounding name - Kongestien.
The trail starts from Bangsbo Hovedgård (Bangsbo Museum) and continues through Bangsbo Deer Park. It follows Bangsbo Å (stream) for a while, then crosses the steam and continues toward Donbæk cemetery. Here you can see traces from the Iron Age, in the form of 62 burial mounds. Borgbjerg and Kongehøj are together the largest burial mounds in the area. From Kongehøj (The Kings Mound), which has given its name to the path, you can enjoy the view over the beautiful landscape.
The path continues towards Vandværkssøen (a lake) to the north. From Vandværkssøen you go west, through Vandværksskoven (a forrest) and up towards Cloostårnet (a vantage viewing point with a tower). From here you can follow the path along Donbækvej back towards Bangsbo Hovedgård. (The Bangsbo Museum).
